The Betway Premiership rolls on this week with a packed midweek and weekend schedule that promises drama from Pretoria to East London, and plenty of talking points along the way. Here is everything you need to know about the eight fixtures coming up across South Africa.

Sundowns Open the Week in Style

The week kicks off on Wednesday, 9 September when Mamelodi Sundowns host Siwelele at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria, with kickoff at 19:30. The Brazilians will be expected to impose themselves at home against a Siwelele side still finding their footing in the top flight. Loftus under lights is always a spectacle, and Sundowns will look to use the occasion to stamp their authority early in the season. Watch out for the press and high tempo play that coach Miguel Cardoso has been drilling into this squad.

Stellenbosch Look to Cement Home Advantage

On Friday, 11 September, Stellenbosch FC take on Sekhukhune United at Athlone Stadium in Cape Town, kicking off at 19:30. Stellenbosch have built a reputation as one of the most organised sides in the division, and Athlone has become a fortress of sorts for the Cape Winelands club. Sekhukhune, however, are a dangerous road side capable of snatching points when least expected. This one has the makings of a tight, tactical contest.

    A Busy Saturday Slate

Saturday brings three fixtures, including one of the most anticipated matchups of the round. At 15:00, Polokwane City welcome Kaizer Chiefs to Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane – a game that will draw eyes from all corners of the country. Chiefs supporters travel in numbers, but Rise and Shine have shown they are no pushover on home soil. A large, vocal crowd is expected, and the pressure on both benches will be considerable.

At the same time, AmaZulu FC host Marumo Gallants at Princess Magogo Stadium in Durban at 15:00. Usuthu will want to use home support to secure points, while Gallants have enough quality to cause an upset on their day. The Durban crowd always lifts the home side, and this promises to be a lively afternoon on the east coast.

Later on Saturday at 17:30, Chippa United face Mamelodi Sundowns at Buffalo City Stadium in East London. The Chilli Boys will carry the underdog tag, but they have a habit of raising their game against the giants of the league. Sundowns, playing their second match in less than four days, will need to manage their squad carefully. Fatigue could be a factor in the final stages.

    Sunday Rounds Out the Weekend

Sunday serves up two fixtures at 15:00. Milford FC take on Richards Bay at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium in Clermont, a KwaZulu-Natal derby that carries local pride alongside the league points. At the same time, Siwelele face Golden Arrows at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein – just days after facing Sundowns, which makes squad depth a real concern for Siwelele’s management.

The weekend concludes at 17:30 when TS Galaxy host Kruger United at Solomon Mahlangu Stadium in KwaMhlanga. Galaxy have the experience advantage in this tie, and home ground should count in their favour as the sun goes down on another full round of Betway Premiership action.
