Siwelele FC and TS Galaxy played out an entertaining 2-2 draw at Toyota Stadium on Sunday as both teams began their 2026/27 Betway Premiership campaigns with a point in an action-packed contest.

The opening weekend fixture delivered four goals, plenty of attacking football and late drama as TS Galaxy twice came from behind to deny the Bloemfontein outfit a winning start. While Siwelele will feel disappointed after surrendering two leads, the Rockets showed resilience to leave Free State with a deserved point.

    Siwelele Strike First

The home side made a bright start in front of their supporters, pressing high and looking dangerous whenever they attacked down the wings. Their early pressure paid off midway through the first half when Jeza found the back of the net to give Siwelele a deserved 1-0 lead.

The goal lifted the atmosphere inside Toyota Stadium as Siwelele looked confident on the ball and controlled much of the opening period. Their midfield dictated possession while the defence limited TS Galaxy’s opportunities in the final third.

However, the visitors slowly grew into the contest and began asking questions of the Siwelele backline with quicker transitions and more direct attacking play.

    Galaxy Respond After the Break

TS Galaxy emerged from halftime with greater urgency and were rewarded shortly after the restart. Victor Letsoalo calmly converted from the penalty spot to level the scores at 1-1, swinging the momentum in favour of the visitors.

The equaliser forced Siwelele to respond, and the home side once again showed their attacking quality. They regained the lead in the second half when Pule restored their advantage, delighting the home crowd and putting the hosts in control once more.

Rather than retreating, TS Galaxy continued to attack in search of another equaliser. Their persistence eventually paid off when Veluyeke Zulu produced the decisive finish to make it 2-2 with less than 20 minutes remaining.

The goal ensured an exciting finish as both sides searched for a winner during the closing stages.

    Late Drama Caps Entertaining Contest

The closing minutes produced more drama as tensions rose on the pitch. TS Galaxy goalkeeper Sipho Maseti was shown a late red card, leaving the visitors to finish the match with ten men.

Despite the numerical disadvantage, Galaxy defended bravely during the remaining minutes and successfully held off Siwelele’s late attacks to secure an important away point.

The result reflected the balance of the contest, with both teams enjoying periods of dominance and creating enough chances to win the match.

    Positive Signs for Both Coaches

Although neither side claimed all three points, there were encouraging performances for both coaching staffs to build on.

Siwelele demonstrated attacking intent throughout the match and looked dangerous whenever they moved forward. Creating two goals against an organised TS Galaxy defence will give the technical team confidence ahead of the next round of fixtures.

For TS Galaxy, the character shown to come from behind twice away from home highlighted the team’s fighting spirit. The Rockets refused to give up after falling behind on two occasions and earned a valuable point that could prove significant as the season progresses.

Both clubs will also identify defensive areas that require improvement after conceding two goals each.

An Encouraging Start to the New Season

The 2-2 draw served as one of the standout matches of the opening weekend of the Betway Premiership, providing supporters with goals, attacking football and plenty of excitement.

Siwelele will feel they let victory slip away after twice leading the contest, but they can take confidence from their attacking display. TS Galaxy, meanwhile, will leave Bloemfontein satisfied with their comeback and resilience despite ending the match with ten players.

With the new campaign only just beginning, both clubs have shown enough quality to suggest they can be competitive in the weeks ahead. If Sunday’s thrilling encounter is any indication, supporters can expect another entertaining Betway Premiership season.
